Many health care organizations, including the University of Michigan Health System, have Spanish-speaking staff who could serve as interpreters with the proper medical interpreter training. Medical Interpreting for Spanish Speakers teaches your Spanish-speaking bilingual staff the skills they need to interpret competently.

UMHS Interpreter Services will offer Medical Interpreting for Spanish Speakers in the Fall of 2013 over 7 Mondays (September 9th – October 21st) from 8:30am – 5:00pm at the Interpreter Services office at 2025 Traverwood Drive, Suite A4, Ann Arbor, MI.

The course provides a 60-hour introduction to medical interpreting, focusing on:

  •  Interpreting skills;
  • Cultural competency;
  • Spanish fluency and medical terminology; and
  • Basic medical knowledge.

Medical Interpreting for Spanish Speakers is open to all fully bilingual individuals who want to communicate with Spanish-speakers in health care settings.
